Alice Hewlett

University of Leicester The University of Leicester just spend a lot of money upgrading its computer system with a high tech, environmentally friendly green computer, its name is Alice (advanced Leicester Information and Computational Environment). It was created by Hewlett Packard, this new system offers the computational power equivalent of thousands of desktop PCs. It will be able to analyze more data than ever before, get responses more quickly, and greatly increase the pace of the universitys research. Although a lot of people is complaining about the price, we are going to talk about the green points: The setup uses an advanced water-cooling system that has been described as being like a glorified car radiator. This technology was supplied by Keysource Ltd, and it is called Ecofris, this is the first time the Ecofris has been set up in any small to medium-sized data centre. Ecofris is going to save the university an estimated 156664,25 per year, and reduce CO2 emissions by 800 tons compared to ALICEs predecessor.
