Last night Padma Lakshi told Kevin Sbraga that he was Bravos newest Top Chef and the guy was so shocked, his response was a meek, I am? At the judges table, Tom Colicchio giggled and said, best response ever. Kevins victory was a surprise at least for some of us. The New York Daily News reports that Bravo spilled the beans when they posted a video preview of next weeks Top Chef reunion special on Bravo.com. In the vid, host Andy Cohen says the winner of Top Chef D.C., Kevin. Luckily Im smart enough to stay off of the internet, Facebook and Twitter when Im watching this stuff! The show played up the rivalry between Angelo and Ed, including a dramatic turn in which Angelo got so sick he couldnt get out of bed (I wonder if it was really that serious, or if the reality was stretched a bit). But the person who was the most shocked at the shows outcome was Kevin himself, who said the victory waslike a dream come true. This is a life-changer, he said. Its absolutely huge that Im the first African-American Top Chef. My dad, my sister, my friends, the guys at the barber shop, theyre going to eat it up. Theyre going to love it. This is it. Im the Top Chef. In addition to the title of Top Chef, Kevin also won a $125,000 cash prize and a showcase at Aspens Annual Food & Wine Classic. Do you think he deserved to win? Throughout the competition he was solid, but was he really the best? Honestly, I think it could have gone to any of the three finalists. And in the finale, he really was the best. Congrats Kevin!
