Your lives are always busy, I’m sure, but the holidays always seem to add even more craziness to everyone’s schedule. Christmas parties with family, friends and co-workers, gift shopping, decorating, Christmas pageants, caroling, bell-ringing, snow shoveling (unless you live on Guam like I do), making cookies, baking turkeys, and all the rest.

Watching WBZ TV’s coverage of the 2011 Boston Marathon, my ears picked up when I heard elite American marathoner Ryan Hall asked, “What is your strategy for the race?” Hall replied, “Be flexible and make sure I listen for god.” (I’m paraphrasing, but it’s fairly accurate.) Uh … okay. Now, does that mean god isn’t going to communicate with his competitors? Also, why would god care if Ryan Hall wins, as opposed to allowing thousands of Japanese to perish in a tsunami? I don’t want to bash on Ryan Hall for an innocuous comment, but if there is a god, he has bigger concerns than how Ryan Hall is going to deal with Heartbreak Hill.
