This is the mess that is left when a star explodes. The Crab Nebula, the result of a supernova seen in 1054 AD, is filled with mysterious filaments. The filaments are not only tremendously complex, but appear to have higher speed than expected from a free explosion. The above image, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, is presented in three colors chosen for scientific interest. The Crab Nebula spans about 10 light-years. In the nebula's very center lies a pulsar: a neutron star as massive as the Sun but with only the size of a small town. The Crab Pulsar rotates about 30 times each second.

I live near Chicago so we don't see many stars, but I still love just staring up into the night sky. I'm not sure why, but thinking about how big the universe is always puts a smile on my face and calms my nerves. NASA today significantly expanded its Centennial Challenges program to include $5 million worth of new competitions to develop robots, small satellites, and solar powered spacecraft.

Joining Mangrove's Michael Jackson on the company's board will be Morgenthaler Ventures' Mark Goines, whose previous experience of running TurboTax, GM'ing Inuit's consumer division, as well as backing the likes of of Mint.com as an angel investor, should come in handy for SohoOS as it begins to double down on user acquisition.
