Hi, we are Ann and Rhiannon, we are building a series of lenses on the cities of Southern England, (where we live) and the famous historical people associated with them.We begin with one of England's greatest writers. His characters stalk, sidle, prance and even mince through the pages of twenty novels. They range from the famous - poor orphan Oliver Twist trembling as he asks for 'more' -to the less well known - Mark Tapley determined to be ' jolly' under the most adverse circumstances he can find. All the creation of Charles Dickens. We will put up two lenses about him, this first one about his life and another about his work, which will feature audio clips of readings from some of the novels.Come with us as we trace his life from humble, poverty stricken beginings in the historic navel city of Portsmouth to fame and fotune as the most celebrated writer of his day.Photo shows Charles Dickens surrounded by many of his famous characters.
