Prince Andrew Confronted By Police In Buckingham Palace Gardens, British Newspaper Reports (Huffington post)
* Report says armed police challenge queen's son * Police say officers approached man to confirm his identity * Incident follows arrests of two men over suspected burglary LONDON, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Queen Elizabeth's son Prince Andrew was confronted by armed police in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, a newspaper reported on Sunday, days after two men were arrested in a security breach at the British monarch's main London residence. Police shouted at the 53-year-old prince to "put your hands up and get on the ground," the Sunday Express said, citing an unnamed royal source. He was said to be strolling the grounds after attending an event in central London on Wednesday. London's Metropolitan Police confirmed that two of its officers had stopped a man in the palace gardens and asked him to verify his identity. "The man was satisfactorily identified. No weapons were drawn and no force was used," the police said in a statement. A police spokesman refused to confirm the man was Prince Andrew and a royal spokesman declined to comment. Two days earlier, police arrested a man, who had been found inside the palace, on suspicion of burglary, trespass and criminal damage. ...

Royal mix-up: UK police order prince to ID himself (Salt Lake Tribune)
London • You might forgive Britain’s royal protection unit for being a little jittery. Two days after an intruder was discovered prowling around Buckingham Palace, police confronted Prince Andrew, the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, in the royal residence’s garden and demanded he identify himself. London’s Metropolitan Police said in an email Sunday that they had apologized to Andrew, also known as the Duke of York, and the royal responded with a touch of humor. “I am grateful for their apolo...

Prince Andrew Mistaken for Intruder at Buckingham Palace (newsy-allvideos)
Watch Video (Image source: Wikipedia Commons / Richard Harvey) **BY ELIZABETH HAGEDORN** Over the weekend, police at Buckingham Palace pointed their guns at a man they say was trying to break in. He was reportedly going for a walk in the gardens when officers ordered the prince to confirm who he was. (Via ITV) According to the Sunday Express, officers told him, **"Put your hands up and get on the ground."** Scotland Yard later apologized for the incident. In a statement, the Duke of York said he's grateful for the apology. **"****The police have a difficult job to do balancing security for the royal family and deterring intruders and sometimes they get it wrong.****"**** **(Via CNN) While the case of mistaken identity has gotten quite a bit of media attention, royal observers say the incident was overblown. **"They would normally, if they saw somebody in the gardens, they would challenge. What's Next For Prince William? (ukpop?format=xml)
Clarence House officially confirmed today that Prince William will be leaving his job as an RAF search-and-rescue pilot, raising questions about what is next for the new dad. Does this mean that William is going to go into full-on royal mode? Well, not really. The Palace has said that the Duke of Cambridge will expand his work in the field of conservation and has been named the president of a new collaboration, named United for Wildlife, which is described in a statement by the Palace as a "long-term commitment to tackle the global challenges to the world's natural resources so they can be safeguarded for future generations." The new project will bring together seven conservation charities, including the World Wildlife Foundation UK and Conservation International, as well as the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. William will immediately get to work on his new conservation project as he'll be presenting two awards for outstanding achievement in the field of African Conservation at the inaugural Tusk Conservation Awards in London tonight. Kate Middleton is also expected to attend the gala this evening. According to Palace statements about William's new job, he ...
Prince William to leave military service (KSAT)
After more than seven and a half years of military service, Prince William is leaving the armed forces to focus on royal duties and charity work, Kensington Palace said Thursday. William was a pilot with the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Force. Known to his RAF comrades as Flight Lt. Wales, he had been stationed at a search-and- rescue base on the remote Welsh island of Anglesey since 2010, and lived there with Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge. In the next few weeks, the pair will move into their official residence at Kensington Palace. The palace statement said that William is considering a "number of options" for public service. For now, he will focus on his royal duties. He will also expand on his conservation work, dealing particularly with endangered species. He will also focus on charities that deal with children, veterans and service members. William's final search and rescue duty was Tuesday. "He and his crew had an uneventful 24 hour shift," the defense ministry said. "Throughout his tour his airmanship, often in the most demanding of conditions, has contributed directly to saving lives in the mountains of North Wales and from the ravages of the Irish ...

Buckingham Palace mix-up: Prince or intruder? (KSAT)
Police spotted a man in the gardens of Buckingham Palace and stopped him, concerned he might be an intruder. The man in question: Prince Andrew, Duke of York. He was out for a stroll through the manicured gardens in the early evening. Andrew, the son of Queen Elizabeth II, was born in the palace in 1960, has offices there, and spends much of his time there. Oops. Two uniformed officers spotted him at 6 p.m. Wednesday, and approached him "to verify his identity," the Metropolitan Police Service said in a statement. "The man was satisfactorily identified." "The police have a difficult job to do balancing security for the royal family and deterring intruders and sometimes they get it wrong," Prince Andrew -- brother of Prince Charles and former husband of Sarah "Fergie" Ferguson -- said in a statement. "I am grateful for their apology and look forward to a safe walk in the gardens in the future." The British press reacted with predictable excitement. A few accounts, apparently incorrectly, reported that the officers had their guns drawn. One outlet wrote that the prince was "held at gunpoint." According to the authorities, no force was used, and no weapons were ...
