How to avoid R.E.P.S. penalties? by P.Larkin In 2009 approx. 17% of R.E.P.S. inspections resulted in a penalty. In my book that is too many penalties. It is a shame! Most farmers are doing their best so why so many penalties? As an experienced R.E.P.S. planner I have found that the single most common root cause of R.E.P.S. penalties is due to a lack of clarity regarding R.E.P.S. annual work requirements. Who is most at fault? Planner or farmer? I cannot advise farmers strongly enough to carefully read their plans and if you are still not sure why not check with their planners. Most planners would be only to delighted to assist you. As planners we would take great pride in assisting our clients to pass inspections without penalties. Ensure you know what R.E.P.S. year you are in and ensure you know exactly what your annual R.E.P.S. requirements are. Do not be embarrassed to double check with your R.E.P.S. planner. In my book, there is no such thing as a silly question where money is at stake! This is after all what you actually pay your annual R.E.P.S. fees for!
