It’s auteur 3-D work-in-progress week in New York! Less than a day after Martin Scorsese gave a hometown crowd an early glimpse at his upcoming Hugo, James Cameron dropped by Times Square to show off 17 minutes from his ongoing 3-D conversion of Titanic.

Sanctum – the new 3D underwater adventure produced by James Cameron – opens in the UK this week. It comes with some (if by no means exclusively) encouraging advance-word from the US, but can it possibly match the excitement that irascible Canadian has delivered in the past? We look back over his finest directorial moments.

Former NYU professor José Angel Santana (also pictured) claims he was fired from the university after giving super famous actor, professional student, and fellow NYU professor James Franco a "D" in his “Directing the Actor II” class. The low grade came after Franco missed 12 of the 14 classes while filming 127 Hours. Santana wants his job back, and has now filed a lawsuit against NYU in Manhattan Supreme Court.

We need to talk about James Cameron. Like, really talk about him -- especially after Monday's announcement of his new alliance to develop and enhance 3-D technology for broadcasters.
