Janelle Monae is one of those artists I can't quite pin. I like her one day, I don't like her the next, I like her, I don't like her, etc. Lucky for all, I like her today :) And truthfully I like where she's headed more than anything. A tour slot opening for Of Montreal, Pitchfork Fest's main stage, a B.N.M. album of endless potential, you name it. Clearly still on the journey of musical maturity/consistency though, Monae skirts the line between mainstream R&B pop and soulful indie-pop. Simply put, she's the "Put A Ring On It" of the indie world with spurts of "Survivor" weighing her down time and again. Album wise, she's inconsistent, with much of 'The Archandroid' falling victim to fillers (ugh). Individual track's wise, she's the shon don of soul (yeah!). The sampler speaks for itself...Enjoy the Monampler! And damn, this is the (genius) "Put A Ring On It" Monae I was talking about. Hat Tip: Ben of The Movie Advocate.
