A Pulitzer prize-winning US journalist who caused a sensation in America by revealing he was an illegal immigrant is now openly campaigning for immigration reform in the United States.

Sportswriters everywhere are patting themselves on the back for acknowledging that Justin Verlander is an MVP candidate. Verlander was easily the best pitcher in the American League this season, but that still doesn’t put him over the top in terms of MVP votes. This isn’t because I believe pitchers shouldn’t be in contention for the award; Pedro Martinez was absolutely robbed in 1999. Verlander simply doesn’t deserve it. Position players like Jacoby Ellsbury, Jose Bautista, Miguel Cabrera, and Curtis Granderson have outmatched the hurler in terms of value.

It’s become apparent, from watching ballgames with my 56-year-old father nearly every night, that two baseball fans can watch the same game and see totally different things. I’m 17 and am highly influenced by the rapid rise of Sabermetrics in the sport, while my Dad has accepted them begrudgingly. For him, judging a pitcher based on ERA and important peripheral stats as opposed to almost solely on wins was as tough a transition as switching from vinyl to CD or VHS to DVD. In a recent AL MVP debate, my father cited Boston’s Adrian Gonzalez as the man to beat because of his lofty batting average and prodigious number of RBI’s. Meanwhile, I, the sensible one, pointed to Toronto’s Jose Bautista and stated that he won the award in June.

Apple is allowing iOS apps to broadcast private data to advertising networks without consent, a recent lawsuit alleges. Filed on December 23rd in a federal court in San Jose, California, the suit notes that iOS devices transmit at least a basic amount of information without permission by way of their UDID (Unique Device Identifier). Advertisers are seeing what apps people are downloading, how often they're run and for how long, say lawyers acting on behalf of plaintiff Jonathan Lalo.

In 2007, a customer filed a class-action suit against Apple for iPhone's lack of a user-replaceable battery. Jose Trujillo claimed in his suit that: "Unknown to the plaintiff, and undisclosed to the public, the iPhone is a sealed unit with its battery soldered on the inside of the device so that it cannot be changed by the owner.

The Mets reached out to Jose Reyes about a contract extension and he told them he was not interested. Reyes stated he wants to only focus on baseball, but what he really wants to say is I want to become a free agent so I can create a bidding war and make a whole lot of money, which the Mets won’t give me.
